Top Award for John

March 29th, 2010

The John Whitney Award 2010VRN’s John Murray has received an award for his outstanding contribution to Hospital Radio at the National Hospital Radio Awards. The event, organised by the Hospital Broadcasting Association, is an annual celebration of the work done by stations across the country.

It’s the second time in five years that the prestigious award has gone to a member of VRN, with Colin Johnston receiving the award in 2005. With over 200 stations across the UK, this is quite an achievement.

John was recognised for the work he has done over several decades at VRN, including his 10 years as Chairman of the station. He also won Male Presenter of the Year a record three times in past years.

The awards took place this year in Glasgow, with a large group from VRN making the journey across. The station was also shortlisted six times, across five of the audio categories: Station of the Year, Special Event, Best Specialist Music Show, Best Newcomer (Shaun Brennan) and Male Presenter of the Year (John Murray, Alex Airnes).
